Georgia Is Where We Started — and Where Most of Our Clients Build
Gonzalez & Company is based in Georgia, and the metro Atlanta construction market is the backbone of our client base. We know the rhythm of building here: the competitive bidding on commercial work, the subcontractor chains on residential developments, the licensing and compliance picture for Georgia contractors, and the state tax angles that matter — from Georgia's job tax credits to how the state treats pass-through entities.
For Georgia real estate investors, we plan around one of the country's most active markets — appreciation-driven metro Atlanta deals, cash-flowing properties in secondary markets, and the short-term rental opportunities across North Georgia.
Georgia's Tax Landscape for Contractors and Investors
Georgia levies a state income tax that flows through to the owners of pass-through businesses, which is exactly why the state's Pass-Through Entity Tax (PTET) election is one of the first things we model for a profitable Georgia S-Corp or partnership. Electing to pay the tax at the entity level converts it into a federal deduction for the business, working around the $10,000 SALT cap — for a profitable contractor that can be worth thousands of dollars a year. Georgia has also been lowering its flat income-tax rate in recent years, so the current-year rate is worth confirming rather than assuming.
Beyond PTET, Georgia offers targeted incentives — including job tax credits in qualifying counties — and has its own rules on how construction contracts, materials, and equipment are taxed. We plan around the full Georgia picture, coordinating the state election with your entity structure, reasonable salary, and equipment timing rather than treating state tax as an afterthought.
Serving Metro Atlanta and All of Georgia
Most of our clients build in metro Atlanta — Gwinnett, Fulton, Cobb, and the fast-growing northern suburbs — and we maintain a dedicated focus on that market; see our Atlanta construction accounting & tax page for the metro-specific picture. But we work with contractors and real estate investors across the entire state, from the coast to the mountains, all with the same proactive, year-round approach.
Because construction so often crosses state lines, we also handle the multi-state realities that trip up growing Georgia contractors: nexus, income apportionment, and nonresident payroll withholding for crews working in neighboring states. Getting that right is one of the quieter ways a Georgia-based builder keeps its total tax and compliance bill down — and it's all available in English or Spanish.
